LG Electronics has developed what is said to be the world’s first Watch Phone capable of 3G VT Service and GSM Quadband Network. It supports GSM Quad 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz network bandwidth, WCDMA Single and HSDPA 7.2 network. The watch phone also supports an interface with capacitive touch, and applies wireless technology that is merged into its compact form factor. The LG GD910 Watch Phone supports TTS (SMS, Schedule), Voice Command, a speakerphone and is a water resistant device (IPX4 standard). With its 1.43 inch trans-reflective TFT tempered glass touchscreen, this wrist phone – measuring less than 14 mm thick –comes with a fastening strap and features a world clock and stopwatch as well. This device is worn as a watch and allows the user to call, send and receive SMS, make video calls and be contacted at any time. Bluetooth with A2DP technology allows users to pair the device with an earpiece for hands free (literally) use. The user interface of LG GD910 is based on Flash technology as past LG feature phone UIs. It is stripped down to the bare minimum with only four icons remaining in its main menu. The design and organization however remain somewhat similar. The GD910 also features LG’s advanced voice recognition and synthesis technologies, which are useful when on the move. The GD910 has a Call key, which doubles as menu button in most menus, the Clear/Back button and the End key. These keys are on the right side of the phone. The watch also supports various homescreens. There is a number of different dials to pick from with some capable of displaying two time zones at the same time. Users simply flick up or down to toggle between the available dials. The Contacts list of LG GD910 has room for up to 1000 contacts in the handset’s memory and allows storing information on contacts which can be organized into caller groups, as well as assign a picture and a ringtone to each individuals. The LG GD910 also supports personal information management functions such as a to-do list, calendar, text notes, memo, voice recording, calculator, World Clock and an alarm clock. The LG GD910 has retained most of the organizer functionality of its bigger brothers. The calendar provides users with daily and monthly view and event setting. There are three different types of events (schedule, anniversary, birthday), each with its own set of fields. Users can also set up an alarm to remind them of the event at a given time. There’s also a to-do application to help users manage upcoming tasks. The other organizing features include text notes and an alarm clock. The LG GD910 alarm clock allows users to set up to 5 different alarms, each with its own name, ringtone and repeat interval. There is also a voice recorder that can come in handy for making voice memos. The calculator provides users with options and functions to calculate simple sums and the World Clock application tell current time in any time zone. The LG GD910 also features a music player that can automatically sort tracks artist, album and genre and allows users to create a playlist of their own if they like. The player also has visualization with equalizer bars interacting with the current track. In addition to the play/pause and the previous and next track onscreen keys the player features some extra functionality. There are shuffle and repeat features as well as five different equalizer presets that can be applied. Another feature on the LG GD910 is the VGA camera with a maximum image resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. While its main purpose is video-calling, it can also snap the occasional contact photo.

Reviews
“the LG GD910 is not the best phone and it sure would’ve helped if it looked a nicer watch. But it might turn to have potential. It’s probably not too farfetched to even envision a sporty outdoor version – you know, taking your morning jog or weekend hike with your favorite music and without missing your calls.” – (GSM Arena, 2009)
“Not £500-worth of fun, granted, but if you’ve got that sort of cash to throw at a present you could do an awful lot worse.” – (Technophile, Guardian UK, 2009)
“If you’re desperate to get a watchphone, the LG GD910 is pretty much the only option at the moment if we don’t count the cheap Chinese Dual SIM solutions. LG are free to charge whatever they want for it anyway but it helps when people’s purchasing judgment is clouded by the lack of competition.” – (GSM Arena, 2009)
