Reviews

“The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic mobile phone managed to surprise me positively. This phone can be used for many more applications than just playing music. Granted, the design does have to be your cup of tea, but nothing is wrong with the phone itself. The Symbian software runs smoothly and fast, and makes the handset very user-friendly. The touchscreen also works fine; only the stylus pen has a rather simple design. The famous Internet browser of Symbian phones is also available on the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, in fact: even better in use thanks to the touchscreen. WiFi and HSDPA provide many solutions. The camera application is fast, which goes for starting up as well as capturing, enabling the 3.2 Megapixel digital camera to produce great pictures. Furthermore, the GPS antenna enables GPS navigation. Naturally, the main feature on the Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic is the music player, which proves both excellent and easy to work with.” (LetsGoMobile, 2009)

“Viewed from the hardware perspective, 5800 reveals little to get fascinated about. All of the solutions realized in this model have seen an earlier use in multiple other Nokia smartphones. The same hardware and sound quality, the same long battery life. As for the software side of the question, the only new or changed features are a new desktop view mode and touch text input techniques, the rest of the features remaining quite trivial and non-revolutionary: Nokia Maps, MP3 player, Search manager didn’t change along with the rest of native S60 applications. Occasionally, some third-party applications wouldn’t launch, but we’re sure it’s a temporary problem to be fixed in a future firmware version. The native application package is versatile enough to fulfill most of the user’s typical needs, so there’s little actual need for third-party software (unless you are a mobile geek feeling overly enthusiastic about all sorts of Symbian software).” (Mobile88, 2009)

“The 5800 has a rated battery life of 8.8 hours talk time in GSM and 5 hours when using 3G. Promised standby battery life is 16.75 days in GSM and 16.7 days in 3G. The handset offers 3.4 hours of Web browsing, three hours of video calling, up to 5.2 hours of video playback, 1.5 days of music playback and 5.6 hours of video gameplay. We were able to get 8 hours and 15 minutes of talk time in our battery drain tests. According to FCC radiation tests, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic has a digital SAR rating of 0.97 watt per kilogram.” (CNET, 2009)
